What is Integrative Medicine?
Integrative medicine is the practice of taking the whole of the person/body into account while assessing and diagnosing an ailment. At The Health Hub, our licensed acupuncturists use their western background knowledge to review a patient’s previous health history, diagnosis’, surgeries and medication list. They will then conduct their own evaluation of systems, diagnose, and treat using traditional chinese medicine. These treatments aim to heal the root cause of the illness, as well as ease the manifested symptoms.
How long does a treatment take?
A private acupuncture treatment session is approximately one hour. This includes discussing overall health history, the reason for your visit, review of systems (new patient), and any change/progress (returning patient). After intake, the physician will then diagnose and treat accordingly. Express acupuncture treatments can last between 30 and 45 minutes.
How many treatments will I need?
Every person has a unique condition, therefore the numbers of treatments will vary. The nature, severity and duration of a problem are all factors that are involved in determining how many treatments will be needed. A general rule of thumb is 1 – 2 treatments to see changes in your chief complaint, 4 -5 treatments to see significant, longer-lasting changes. For chronic conditions, we typically treat a series of six weekly visits and reevaluate from there. Over a six-week period, patients report a significant decrease in symptoms. Consistency is the key to recovery. Patient’s must be their own health advocate and put in the work in between seeing their acupuncturist. The sooner you come in when you experience pain or discomfort, the easier we can help resolve the problem.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we do take insurance. You should call your insurance provider to see if acupuncture treatments are covered under your health insurance policy. We ask that you pay the regular cash rate for the first few visits, until we receive payment on the claim and discover how your plan pays and whether or not you owe a co-pay or co-insurance. We will notify you if and when we receive payment from your insurance provider.
Does the VA cover acupuncture?
Yes! We are pleased to announce that the Veterans Administration now covers acupuncture for Veterans at no charge to you! Contact your VA doctor to request an acupuncture script. When we receive a ‘consult’, we will contact you to set up your first appointment.
