Non-Needle Therapy

Non-needle Therapy is typically used as part of an acupuncture treatment, to complement the acupuncture. However, they are very effective used alone.  Especially for anyone who has an aversion to acupuncture needles.

Some, such as Laser and Avazzia microcurrent, and massage techniques (see massage page) treat the local problem area to help regenerate that area.

Some, such as ear and foot reflexology, use body imaging to produce a local effect from a non-local spot.

Avazzia Micro-Current

The Avazzia microcurrent  handheld devices produce tiny impulses, transmitted through the skin to interface with the body’s internal peripheral nervous system for the purpose of therapeutic intervention.

By changing abnormal frequencies in the body, we influence systems of the body toward optimal healing. Examples of successes with Avazzia therapy include helping bones, tendons and ligaments heal faster; treatment of inflammation related digestive disorders and chronic pain; and regulation of hormones.

Patients have used Avazzia for the following reasons:
Alleviate pain either before surgery or after surgery.
Traditional remedies for pain (drugs, surgery, and physical therapy) are not helping or not helping enough.
Long-term pain (from sports injuries, trauma such as car accidents, or work-related pain such as carpal tunnel syndrome) that is hard to eliminate.
Pain related to other health conditions, such as diabetic neuropathy.
Many people report impressive results – significantly reduced pain and, frequently, pain completely eliminated.

Effectiveness depends on factors including source of pain, history of pain, other health issues, adherence to treatment schedule and more. Even fatigue and hydration may impact outcomes. There are no known side effects. The technology does not impact efficacy of other medicine or injections received for pain management.

Avazzia takes the neuro-stimulation technology of the past and brings it into the 21st century. Using proprietary software and a high-performance microcomputer chip, different micro current wave forms and interactive output characteristics, Avazzia products are to the old-fashioned devices what digital music is to the Victrola.

The Avazzia devices are FDA-cleared non-invasive, non-pharmacological neuro-modulation devices developed to provide pain relief without surgery and without pharmaceutical medicine.

Low Level Laser

We use low-level laser to stimulate the movement of energy in the acupuncture channel via acupuncture points to help regenerate cells, decrease pain, reduce inflammation and improve circulation. Laser acupuncture is especially helpful to treat children and adults with a needle phobia. We also use laser for scar tissue blockages caused by adhesions.
Laser acupuncture is also effective and often shown to be as effective as needle acupuncture for a variety of problems. Effectiveness is enhanced because laser acupuncture allows you to treat points you otherwise might not be able to treat, due to patient age, sensitivity, or fear.
Most lasers used in acupuncture are known as low-level lasers or "cold lasers," (because they don't produce heat.). These are not the same as lasers used for laser surgery, in which "hot lasers" are used as a scalpel to burn or cut. Studies show that low-level lasers can help regenerate cells, decrease pain, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and stimulate hair growth, to name a few examples.
Recent studies on laser acupuncture have included advanced brain imaging, as well as several other modern protocols for measuring various physiological effects to the body. These studies show that laser acupuncture has physiological effects, not only locally, but also in the brain, similar to needle acupuncture. Laser on Urinary Bladder 67, for example, shows measurable effects in the brain. The effects were only detected when the laser was turned on. When the laser was turned off, no effects were detected.
Multiple published studies have shown good effects of laser acupuncture for the following conditions: hiccups, bed wetting, weight loss, post-operative nausea and vomiting, pain control, surgical anesthesia, dental anesthesia, carpal tunnel syndrome, dry eyes, and stroke-related paralysis. Obviously, as more studies are performed, more information will be found.
In 1991, a study was done in Novosibirsk, Russia that applied directly to the study of acupuncture. Researchers shined light on various parts of the body and found that light traveled under the skin to other acupuncture points, but it didn't travel to places that were not on acupuncture meridians. It appears that the body contains a sort of fiber optic network—where light enters an acupuncture point, travels through the meridian and can be detected at other places along the meridian with a sensitive photon detector. This is a fascinating study showing how light is actually received, used and transmitted throughout the body.

Auriculotherapy

Ear Reflexology can be done with tiny acupuncture needles, laser therapy, micro-current, magnetic gold plated balls, or small seeds.  The ear is examined and tested for tender spots.  These tender spots are often related to the organ or body area that they represent.
The ear is imaged as an inverted fetus pattern that is represented on the ear. The ear is a map of the body in an inverted or upside down pattern. Imagine the head and face in the lobe of the ear, with the ridge in the center of the spine representing the spine- the neck in the lower part and the lumbar at the lower part of the ridge.  The internal organs are represented in the center of the ear.
Many forms of treatment use therapies that use the imagining of a micro-system or micro- reflex system, with one part of the body representing the whole body.  With auriculotherapy, the auricle (the ear) serves as a microsystem in that the external ear is like a microcosm of the whole body. Microsystems have been reported for foot reflexology, hand reflexology, face acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, and iridology.
The word microsystem has also been referred to as a micro-acupuncture system or a micro-reflex system. The auricle serves as a microsystem in that the external ear is like a microcosm of the whole body, with one part of the body representing the whole body. This phrasing distinguishes a microsystem from the macro-acupuncture system of meridian channels that extend over the whole body and the nervous system connection of reflex pathways that inter-relate different parts of the body. Microsystems have been reported for foot reflexology, hand reflexology, face acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, and iridology.
As with distal acupoints in body acupuncture, the auricular microsystem can be used to treat health conditions in distant parts of the body. Stimulating points on the ear not only can alleviate problems associated with nearby regions of the face and head but can also relieve pathological disorders in the chest, abdomen, lower back, and feet. According to microsystem theory, it is not that there are direct connections between the ear and the back or the ear and the foot. Rather, nerves from the ear connect to reflex centers in the brain which send neurological reflex pathways to the spinal cord and then to neurons going to the spine or to the foot.
The basic concept in auriculotherapy is that nerves in the skin overlying specific areas of the external ear correspond to specific parts of the brain which has reflex connections to the body. Organo-Cutaneous Reflexes are activated when organic pathology in a specific part of the body induce reflex reactions in the external ear, manifested as localized changes in tenderness, altered blood circulation, and electrodermal reactivity. Cutaneo-Organic Reflexes are activated when specific points on the auricle are stimulated in order to relieve organic pathology in another part of the body.
How does Auriculotherapy work?
The endorphins, endogenous morphine molecules that relieve pain in a manner similar to external opiate chemicals, have been used as one explanation for how auriculotherapy serves to relieve pain. Both animal research and human studies have shown that stimulation of ear acupuncture points appears to cause the systemic release of endorphins.
Auriculotherapy can be used to treat major or minor problems throughout the whole body.  It has come be used as a very effective detox protocol for people in the process of stopping the use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco and excess eating.  It helps with the cravings and other symptoms of withdrawal.
